The following are terms that are meant to help individuals become more familiar with terminology that may be used regarding their motorcycle accident claim.

Armor: A material fitted into a motorcyclist’s apparel to shield them from any type of impact.

Automatic-on Headlamp: A motorcycle headlamp automatically turned on as the engine is started.  This is also known as a running lamp.

Distress Vehicle: A major part of a vehicle either wrecked, damaged, missing, or stolen.  The total estimated repair include both part costs as well as labor costs, and is either equal to or more than 75% of the original cash value of the vehicles pre-damaged condition.  

Fairing: Bodywork done on the frontal part of a motorcycle to ensure that it is more aerodynamic and can provide the rider with reduced wind pressure.

Injury: Results from exposure of physical agents with rates that extend above the normal human tolerance.  These physical agents consist of heat, chemicals, radiation, mechanical energy, and electricity. 

Motor Vehicle: An electric powered vehicle such as a motorcycle or a self-propelled vehicle such as a trailer.

Motorcycle: A vehicle which is comprised of two-wheels and a heavy frame. This excludes those vehicles which can not be licensed for use on the highway, such as minibikes.

Motorcycle Occupant: An injury and/or death while riding a motorcycle, caused by a motor vehicle.

Motorized Vehicle: All vehicles licensed for use on the highway.  This excludes vehicles such as minibikes and snow mobiles.

Overbrake: The expression when a wheel stops turning because a great deal of force has been put on its break.
