Motorcyclist Seriously Injured in Collision

EL PASO, TEXAS – The El Paso Police Department’s Special Traffic Investigations Unit (STI) responded to the 2700 block of Pershing to assist Central Regional Command Center’s Patrol Officers with a collision involving a motorcycle. The preliminary investigation revealed Mr. DeAnda was westbound on Pershing on his motorcycle when a 1993 Ford F150, driven by Mr. Rivera, was northbound on Maple. Mr. Rivera failed to yield the right of way to the motorcycle and entered the intersection. Mr. DeAnda was unable to stop the motorcycle in time and struck the passenger side of the Ford F150. Mr. DeAnda, who was wearing a helmet, was transported to Thomason Hospital with life-threatening injuries where he remains in critical condition. It does not appear either speed or alcohol were factors in this collision. The investigation continues.
