Attorney General Injured In Motorcycle Accident

Attorney General Mark Shurtleff was injured this afternoon in a motorcycle accident while preparing for a charity motorcycle ride benefitting a memorial for officers who died in the line of duty. Shurtleff was hospitalized and is being treated for two fractures in his lower left leg. The Attorney General was planning to join Governor Jon Huntsman tomorrow for the “Fall Ride For Fallen Officers,” an event to help raise support and funds for a $1.3 million dollar memorial at the State Capitol.

“On behalf of the Utah Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation, I express my sympathy to Attorney General Shurtleff. We appreciate that he was willing to join us in this event. Unfailing support for Utah's public safety and for Utah's public safety officers has been a hallmark of General Shurtleff's service,” says Ken Wallentine, Director of Law Enforcement for the Attorney General’s Office and an associate board member for the Utah Law Enforcement Memorial Board of Directors.

Shurtleff was test riding a motorcycle in Orem when the accident occurred in Orem. His first concern was that the accident would be detriment to the charity ride. He was treated at the Timpanogos Regional Hospital and then transported to the University of Utah Hospital.
